“Childhood is long and narrow like a coffin, and you can’t get out of it on your own.”
― Tove Ditlevsen, Childhood
Childhood is something we look back to. Reflect. Nostalgia we share with ourselves, the children we may have. Life lessons. First this or thats. Like a kiss or cigarette or swear word.
And sometimes childhood is filled with more pitfalls, pain. Lined with poor choices, bad characters. And if you are lucky, you do have someone, something to pull you up by the wrists from the dark waters.
It is interesting though to return to the place you ran from in your youth and try to keep your chin on the water, tiptoe through the riptide, when nothing has really changed. Landmarks, people. Everything looking the same, a trigger around every corner.
It has been 5+ years now, and I am a lot better than when I began but I’m most definitely to move back to the city. It is amazing, the difference 40 miles can make.
I've been thinking about childhood and home lately too. That's beautiful and aching. Much love and strength to you.
