Friday Line
Can you believe October is nearly over? The days lately have been clouds and rain and a constant grayness. I caved and ordered some “daylight” bulbs for the light above my desk, as it has become oppressive some days to sit here.
The past couple of days I’ve returned to reading manuscripts and I am glad to be falling back into that groove of reading and reviewing. Giving feedback. But today I’m going back to my drafts. Still working on Iced Tea, a story about a woman who sticks out like a sore thumb in her new neighborhood that consists only of old women. It is based a bit in fact and a bit in fantasy. A great combination if done correctly. It’s short which means it has to be as close to perfect as I can get.
It does feel good to touch base with it and feel the progress as I pluck here and add there, feeling a tighter story emerge.
Here is a line that may shrink or grow or disappear: She didn’t know why she’d taken this place. She wasn’t really a water person after having drowned a few times in her youth but Molly said water had healing qualities even if you never got wet and she was right.
