This morning I woke up with aches and pains. Soles of my feet, felt like I'd walked 50 miles in flip flops on a gravel road, lined with sticks and stones. But I did my usual programming. Wake, kiss husband goodbye (always good), coffee, take daughter to school, come home and usually, sit on the couch and allow myself to wake slowly. Listen to Midsomer Murders or Matlock, avoid the news. Today though, I headed back to the kitchen where I'd already set up my mise en place. (My husband is a chef, but musician at heart and we watch most of the chef shows and lament the passing of the original Iron Chef which was the BOMB!) But back to the mise en place, the putting in place, gathering of ingredients. I love that! My brain does not work like that when baking. I usually measure and scoop as I go. But as I've gotten older it's comforting to have my 2 cups of that, 1/2 cup of this at hand when ready. I made Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookies for some of the residents at the Senior Living Home I work at. They have a program today, A-Z. And my co-worker was not given a budget or stipend yet to take care of extra like this, so I offered. It was a smooth process. Calming. Meditative. Because I had the time, the mise en place, and not the pressure I feel when sitting at my desk (after the couch) getting ready to write. Well, that is how I got over my hump today. Doing something for people who deserve it but don't expect it. Now, I will publish this and then do a once over of a piece I need to send out before I chicken out! Allez Cuisine!

I love Iron Chef, mise en place, and surprising people. Love this tiny piece!
“Doing something
for people who deserve it but don't expect it.” It really is a perfect antidote for the doldrums!
