3.20.23 I am working on a piece that came from a dark and fantastical place. Written in a stream of consciousness. It flowed quite quickly as I suppose streams of consciousness are wont to do. But now I am editing it again and again. Cleaning it up is hard. Because some things I can picture. I know where my heart and eyes were and how they match up but some lines just seem so out there I am torn between reining them in to make it all make sense, make it work better in the piece rather than leaving it dangling like a loose tooth. But if left alone will your eyes glaze over it, try to put it back in place and make it work for you? Or will it just make you stop and gape? We will see. For now, I have let it go. Emailed it to myself to print out later and go through with fresh eyes. Perhaps it is the normal pieces that have to be shaved away here and there. Deadweight. Norms. 3.21.23 Today, I am working on another piece that received feedback and I thought was finished but after another reading I felt it required more attention. It is also a little out there, with a touch of macabre. Can you garland a tree? Garlanding a tree Oh, and gargoyled is indeed an actual word. 3.22.23 Finished that piece from yesterday. Left in the weird and fleshed out a couple of lines. The magazine I wanted to submit to can have up to a six month response time. That is probably normal but geesh. They do also state you can submit elsewhere if you haven't heard back. I'll probably submit it anyway. And take another dive into the surreal pool.
