Beautiful morning. Still seems cruel that the temps can still be so low in May, but again, the Midwest Malady!
I baked a carrot cake for the restaurant; drove over to my mom’s to change the batteries in my mom’s Ring camera, and then came back and washed dishes. Exciting.
On a creative note, I was happy to find out that the Google Docs has a live word counter, something I had NO idea about and will now use always. But I also want to create some kind of template that will emit a noise when I go past a predetermined word count, sinister, huh?
It has been so busy at the restaurant that I haven’t had time edit, let alone write, because home life has been busy and I’ve been EXHAUSTED. And when I’m on the Metra, I’ve been tuning out, listening to podcasts, but I do have a piece centered on Spring that I really want to submit to Fractured Lit or Split Lip.
I wrote it on one of those spring days when it rains and rains, the sun never shines, and everything, including myself, felt as if underwater. There are some bright notes to it though: Movement of wind, tulips, a cat, Sicily, love. But in the end, it is about grief, which I suppose holds a type of beauty. (In idea that I must come back to!)
It is 249 words but I think it still manages to say a lot, it is quick, almost like a single take. I hope I can get through it.
So when I’m done here, I am going to work on it before making my Cream Cheese Buttercream.
On another light and fluffy note, today is David Gahan’s birthday. Woo!Hoo! Best birthday present I’ve had were tickets for me and my husband to see them here in Chicago for the Memento Mori tour.
