Still a day behind, I am going to ride this out though. Last night was a Full moon. A Libra moon. First Full moon after the equinox and from last night to the last quarter is supposed to be the best time for killing weeds, thinning, pruning, etc. I will begin that process with refreshing my undercut (ha!) and then when I get back, I will unwrap my Fig tree! I cannot wait to see it thrive again. Yesterday, I read more, wrote less. Today I hope to find a better balance. We will see. I hope you don't mind but I while I am still trying to find my bearings this week I would like to share a little film review I wrote four years ago, that no one has read. It is actually interesting to see how my writing has changed. Somebody Killed Her Husband At first glance the title reads like an early Lifetime movie. Gloom and manufactured doom, but this is actually a 1970s Mystery/Comedy starring Jeff Bridges and Farrah Fawcett (Fawcett-Majors at the time.) Now, comedy unless it is dark is one of my least favorite genres. I can’t explain why so I’ll just blame that small spot in my heart that loathes happiness in cinematic form but I enjoyed this. I was looking for a mystery and something light, a break from horror and was sucked in by the synopsis: “A woman’s husband is murdered and she and her lover must find the killer or stand accused of doing it themselves!” Then the genre Comedy, Crime, Mystery!
Comedy, Crime, Mystery! Hello, Clue? Murder by Death? Wait, apparently I do like comedy? But I digress.
At the beginning of the film Jeff Bridges character, Jerry Green is looking into a mirror and talking to himself, trying to come up with a name. Is he preparing for a blind date? A long con? Soon we find out that he writes Children’s Books. (Wha? I am a sucker for any movie with a writer in it because I am a writer. Who says I cannot be corny?) And Farrah’s character, Jenny Moore is also an artist. A match made in heaven, no? Oh, but she is married to a wealthy but bland man and has a cute son named Benjamin. But that does not keep their romance from blooming and when her husband is forced out of the picture, they become even closer trying to solve the murder before the police find out. There is a pretty decent body count but Somebody Killed Her Husband is far from gory, think of it as a Hallmark Giallo.
The screenplay was written by Reginald Rose who also penned Twelve Angry Men, so the writing is pretty tight though a lot lighter than the former film. Fun dialogue kept me smiling as Farrah and Jeff have great chemistry throughout. So what’s not to enjoy? You have 1970s New York City, an awkward and witty Jeff smooching on a cute baby, funny Farrah in suspenders, physical comedy, and even a dragon!

I may revisit this movie because I honestly don’t remember watching it! I hope you are well and the week as well as the weather has been good to you.
What are you watching?
Thanks to you I keep learning of new (and old new) films I never heard of! It seems like a delightful time. Speaking of Twelve Angry Men, Nikita Mikhalkov directed a remake titled 12 in 2007, which I thought was very moving and dynamic. I'm currently rewatching Parks and Recreation--it's a hoot!
